The I Ching may be the oldest book in the world. The work of Fu Xi, King Wen and his son Duke Chou, with commentaries by Confucius, its origin dates back over 3,000 years.

The I Ching is made up of 64 hexagrams. Each hexagram is made up of two pictograms of three lines each (shown below). These three line trigrams represent the elements of nature, the seasons of the calendar, the eight compass points, and the traditional hierarchy of the family.

Each line of the hexagram is either a broken/yielding yin line or a solid/firm yang line. Under certain circumstances these lines may change to their opposite form and create a new hexagram. Consequently, consulting the I Ching may render over 4,000 possible scenarios.

The logic of the I Ching is based upon the eternal and natural cycle of growth, development, and decay of all things. This eternal cycle of existence that is played out in the negative and positive dualism represented by yin and yang and the interplay of opposites. Ultimately, all things reside within the unity of these opposites and the I Ching offers advice on finding harmony within these often turbulent and ever changing circumstances.

Because the I Ching divines the universal flow of energy, for centuries people have consulted it to clarify the events in their life. The I Ching suggests how to be in harmony with the time, place, and circumstances of their life. Its insights are based upon the wisdom of the middle way.

The I Ching should only be consulted regarding important questions and events. It should never be used for mean purposes or out of selfish motivation.

Please refer to the information page regarding an I Ching consultation.
